Summary Pakistan security forces killed 12 terrorists after a deadly attack on a Tank check post that left 15 security personnel martyred, ISPR said.
RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – Twelve terrorists were killed while 15 security personnel and a government official were martyred after a terrorist attack targeted a joint police check post in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Tank district, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Friday.
According to the military's media wing, the attack occurred during the night of July 23-24 when militants, identified by the ISPR as members of the "Indian-sponsored Fitna Al Khwarij", attempted to storm the joint police check post.
The ISPR said security forces responded swiftly and effectively, foiling the attackers' attempt to breach the facility. Troops then pursued the fleeing militants, killing 12 terrorists in the ensuing operation.
The military said the assailants, in a last-ditch attempt to inflict damage, rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the perimeter wall of the check post. The powerful blast caused extensive damage to the installation.
As a result of the explosion, 15 personnel embraced martyrdom, including 12 soldiers, two police officers and one government official from the Forest Department, the ISPR said.
A sanitisation operation is currently underway to eliminate any remaining militants in the area, according to the military.
The ISPR said Pakistan's security forces and law enforcement agencies would continue their nationwide counterterrorism campaign under the Azm-e-Istehkam strategy, approved by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan, to eradicate what it described as foreign-sponsored terrorism.
"The sacrifices of our brave soldiers further reinforce our unwavering commitment to safeguarding our nation at all costs," the ISPR said.
