Summary The Islamabad High Court suspended a PEIRA notice seeking data on 10% scholarship students from a private school and issued notices to the federation and the regulator.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has suspended a notice issued by the Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA) to a private educational institution in a case concerning the provision of scholarships to 10 percent deserving students.
Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir heard a petition filed by Zaafran Elahi challenging the regulator's notice. Counsel for the petitioner argued that his client operates an educational institution in Islamabad's I-10 sector and that PEIRA had issued a notice on June 11 seeking data on students admitted under the mandatory 10 percent scholarship quota.
The petitioner's lawyer contended that the notice was contrary to fundamental rights and requested the court to declare it void.
The court suspended the June 11 notice and issued notices to the federation and the Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority. The case will now be taken up for hearing in the first week of August.
