LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) has convened a key meeting on July 21, 2026, to consider the appointment of additional judges to the Lahore High Court (LHC).

According to an official communication issued by the Judicial Commission's secretary, the meeting will be held at 2:00pm in the conference room of the Supreme Court of Pakistan in Islamabad.

The session will be chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi, who also serves as the chairman of the Judicial Commission. Other constitutional members of the commission are also expected to attend.

Agenda includes confirmation and new appointments

According to the agenda, the commission will first consider the confirmation of one additional judge before taking up the appointment of 10 additional judges against vacant positions in the Lahore High Court.

The commission will review the names of 24 shortlisted candidates for the available vacancies.

The shortlisted candidates include District and Sessions Judges Nasir Javed Rana, Muhammad Shan Gul, Ghulam Sarwar Nahang, Muhammad Ajmal Khan Zahid, Ameer Ajam Malik, Shireen Imran, Asad Ali Bajwa, Muhammad Amjad Pervez, Khalid Ibn-e-Aziz, Munawar Iqbal Dogal, Syed Farhad Ali Shah, and Barrister Muhammad Usman Ghani.

The list also includes Rashid Cheema, Kashif Rajwana, Chaudhry Sarfraz Ali Dayal, Muhammad Sajid Khan Tanoli, Muhammad Saqib Jilani, Muhammad Waseem, Asad Mahmood Abbasi, Ashfaq Ahmed Kharral, Daniyal Ejaz, Mughis Aslam Malik, Muhammad Shehzad Khan, Muhammad Nawazish Ali Pirzada, and Iftikhar-ul-Haq Khan Sherwani.

Records shared with commission members

The Judicial Commission has circulated the candidates' records among its members ahead of the meeting.

The communication states that if any commission member believes the name of an eligible candidate has been inadvertently omitted, or has any objection regarding a shortlisted candidate, they should inform the commission's secretariat within two days of receiving the communication so the matter can be considered during the meeting.

The appointments are part of the constitutional process for filling judicial vacancies in one of Pakistan's busiest high courts.
