GILGIT (Dunya News) – Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Amjad Hussain Advocate was sworn in as the new chief minister of Gilgit-Baltistan on Monday after securing the top office following the party's victory in the 2026 regional elections.
Gilgit-Baltistan Governor Syed Mehdi Shah administered the oath to the newly elected chief minister during a ceremony held in Gilgit. The event was attended by senior PPP leaders, elected representatives and other dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering after taking the oath, Amjad Hussain said the PPP had emerged as the largest political party in the June 7 elections, crediting the party's success to the support of the people across the region.
He thanked the youth and women for their active participation in the elections, saying PPP candidates had won the confidence of voters in their respective constituencies. He also expressed gratitude to those who gave the party an overwhelming mandate.
The chief minister said the people had once again placed their trust in the PPP, describing the party's bond with Gilgit-Baltistan as one that spans three generations. He added that the party had secured a significant mandate in Diamer for the first time.
Amjad Hussain said the public had reposed confidence in the PPP despite the party not being in power at the Centre.
