RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) - Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan on Sunday paid tribute to the brave son of the Pakistan Army, Shaheed Captain Karnal Sher Khan (Nishan-e-Haider), saying that the Pakistan Army and its martyrs are the pride of the nation.
Addressing workers of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in Rawalpindi, Sardar Saleem Haider Khan said that the sacrifices made by the martyrs of the Pakistan Army are unforgettable.
Punjab Governor urged all political parties to play a constructive role in strengthening democracy, saying the protection of national security, the constitution and the democratic system is a shared responsibility.
Referring to the military coup of July 5, 1977, Saleem Haider said the overthrow of an elected government dealt a major setback to democracy and push the country back by several years.
He said the PPP leadership had made historic sacrifices for the restoration of democracy, the supremacy of the Constitution and the protection of public rights.
Speaking about the upcoming elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the governor said the PPP was contesting the polls vigorously and expressed confidence that the party would secure strong public support.
Saleem Haider also expressed confidence that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari would become Pakistan's next prime minister, describing him as a leader who represents the aspirations of underprivileged and marginalized segments of society.
