LAHORE (Dunya News) - The Punjab Home Department has imposed Section 144 across the province during Muharram to maintain law and order and strengthen security arrangements.

According to an official notification, the restrictions will remain in force from 1st to 10th Muharram (June 17–26), during which seven categories of activities will be prohibited.

The notification states that only officially approved religious processions and gatherings will be permitted during Muharram, while any new procession, gathering or religious activity will not be allowed.

Under Section 144, the public display of weapons and explosive materials at public places has been banned without prior approval from the relevant authorities. Authorities have also prohibited provocative slogans, gestures, statements and comments that could incite sectarian tensions or offend religious sentiments.

The order further bans the dissemination of material or speeches promoting sectarian, ethnic or religious hatred.

In view of security concerns, residents living along procession routes will not be allowed to establish observation posts or stockpile stones, bricks, bottles or other objects on rooftops. Spectators will also be prohibited from gathering on rooftops and shop platforms located along procession routes.

The Home Department announced that a ban on pillion riding will be enforced only on the 9th and 10th of Muharram, although women, senior citizens and law enforcement personnel will be exempt from the restriction.

Officials said the notification has been formally issued and all relevant departments have been directed to ensure widespread public awareness and strict implementation of the security measures throughout the province.
