(Web Desk) - Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah has said the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) is getting funding from external elements, adding the organisation had turned down several offers aimed at resolving disputes through peaceful means.

Appearing on a TV programme, Rana Sanaullah said the banned outfit had never previously called for the abolition of the 12 refugee seats in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Assembly.

“The JAAC raised this demand in October 2025 alongside 38 other demands and agreed to the establishment of a committee to examine the issue,” he said.

Speaking on the programme, Rana Sanaullah said the banned JAAC had introduced a new demand, calling for the removal of the declaration requiring candidates contesting AJK Assembly elections to affirm that Kashmir would accede to Pakistan following independence.

He claimed that investigations had uncovered financial support for the proscribed outfit from external sources including Pakistani individuals living in the United Kingdom.

According to the PML-N leader, the federal government proposed several avenues to address the dispute over refugee seats, including holding a referendum, convening an all-parties conference, and referring the matter to the AJK Assembly for deliberation.

However, he said, the banned organisation rejected all of these proposals and remained committed to proceeding with its June 9 protest.
