Summary Punjab approves One Map Punjab project to digitise geospatial data, improve planning, and centralise infrastructure records province-wide.
LAHORE (Dunya News) - The Punjab government has approved the launch of the “One Map Punjab” initiative aimed at integrating all mapping and geospatial data of the province on a single digital platform.
According to official sources, the project will be launched at an estimated cost of Rs14.66 billion. The initiative seeks to digitise land records, infrastructure data, and public sector development projects for improved planning and transparency.
The project will initially be implemented in Lahore before being expanded across the entire province.
Under the new system, all government projects and assets will be digitally mapped to avoid duplication and improve coordination among departments. It will also help identify conflicts in utility lines and development works through automated analysis tools.
A special decision support system will be developed to assist policymakers in resource allocation and planning based on real-time geospatial data.
Officials said the Punjab Information Technology Board will execute the project, while the Planning and Development Department will act as the sponsoring agency.
The plan includes hiring a 36-member expert team, with over Rs537 million allocated for human resources alone, while Rs324 million has been proposed for hosting and technical infrastructure.
However, planning forums have directed authorities to rationalise expenses, including reducing laptop procurement and eliminating unnecessary mobile and honorarium costs.
Authorities have also been instructed to ensure strict security measures for sensitive geographical data and to develop a sustainable revenue model for the long-term viability of the project.
