Summary Pakistan and several Muslim nations have condemned the reported opening of a Somaliland embassy in occupied Jerusalem, calling it illegal and contrary to international law and UN resolutions.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan and several Muslim countries have strongly condemned the reported inauguration of a Somaliland embassy in occupied Jerusalem, describing the move as illegal and a violation of international law.
According to a statement issued by Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson, a joint declaration was released by the foreign ministers of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Türkiye, Indonesia, Djibouti, Somalia, Palestine, Oman, Sudan and Yemen.
The joint communiqué stated that the opening of the so-called Somaliland embassy in occupied Al Qus was unlawful and directly challenged the legal and historical status of the holy city. The ministers reaffirmed their rejection of any attempt to alter the recognised status of occupied Jerusalem through unilateral or illegal measures.
The Foreign Office spokesperson said the participating Muslim countries viewed the move as a clear breach of international law and United Nations resolutions concerning the status of Jerusalem.
The declaration further stressed that any action aimed at creating illegal facts on the ground in occupied Jerusalem would not be accepted by the Muslim world. It also reiterated the countries’ commitment to rejecting all unilateral steps that contradict international legitimacy and UN resolutions.
The statement comes amid heightened diplomatic sensitivity surrounding the status of Jerusalem, which remains a central issue in the long-running Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Muslim nations have consistently maintained that occupied East Jerusalem is an integral part of the Palestinian territories and that any changes to its status must be resolved through internationally recognised negotiations.
