LAHORE (Dunya News) - Renowned poet and religious scholar Syed Salman Gilani passed away in Lahore on Saturday at the age of 74 after a prolonged illness.
Family sources said that Gilani had been undergoing treatment at Sheikh Zayed Hospital for some time.
He held a distinguished place in religious and literary circles and was widely respected for his contributions to devotional and satirical poetry.
A passionate advocate of the Khatm-e-Nabuwwat movement, Gilani was the son of noted religious leader Syed Amin Gilani.
Following in his father’s footsteps, he dedicated much of his work to themes related to Islam, the praise of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), and social issues, expressing them in a distinctive and engaging style.
Gilani was especially admired for his sharp wit and refined humour.

His spontaneous poetry and satirical verses were known for blending elegance with liveliness, often captivating audiences.
In recognition of his devotional poetry, he was also remembered by the title “Shair-e-Khatm-e-Nabuwwat.”
Born in Lahore in 1951, Gilani devoted his life to promoting literature, religious values and social awareness.
His book, ‘Meri Baatain Hain Yaad Rakhne Ki’, received appreciation from readers and features a collection of his reflections and memories.
His passing has sparked an outpouring of grief across literary, religious and social circles, with poets, political leaders and community figures offering condolences.
