Lahore Basant draws global guests as US, UK envoys join festivities

(Web Desk) - Members of the United States and United Kingdom diplomatic missions in Pakistan took part in Basant celebrations in Lahore, joining locals in kite flying and expressing delight at the revival of the traditional spring festival.
After nearly two decades, Basant has returned to Lahore under strict safety regulations, rekindling a cherished cultural tradition deeply rooted in the city’s history and identity. Despite being held in a limited and closely monitored format, the festival drew both local residents and international participants.
The US delegation, led by Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Islamabad, Natalie Baker, arrived in Lahore to participate in the festivities. The delegation also included US Consul General in Lahore Stetson Sanders and Deputy Assistant Secretary John Mark Pommersheim.
UK Ambassador to Pakistan Jane Marriott also attended the Basant celebrations along with an official delegation, highlighting international interest in the cultural event.
Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Punjab Minister for Information and Culture Azma Zahid Bokhari, and Provincial Minister for Communications Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharath welcomed the US and UK delegations.
During the event, members of the diplomatic missions actively participated in kite flying and shared their appreciation for the vibrant atmosphere, marking a moment of cultural exchange and goodwill between Pakistan and the international community.
