LAHORE (Dunya News) - Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced a province-wide audit of fire safety systems following the deadly fire incident at Karachi’s Gul Plaza.

In a statement, the chief minister said that new standard operating procedures (SOPs) would be developed and fire safety systems would be strengthened across Punjab.

She emphasised that complete inspections of both public and private buildings would be carried out to address risks related to short circuits and prevent fire hazards in a timely manner.

Maryam Nawaz stated that safety measures would be ensured in government offices, hospitals, schools, and private institutions. She reaffirmed that effective steps would be taken to prevent fire-related risks and enhance public safety.

Gul Plaza inferno: Three more bodies identified as death toll rises to 29

The death toll from the Gul Plaza blaze rose to at least 29 on Wednesday as rescue teams continued combing through the debris, while 86 people remained missing.

According to sources, the identity of three more people who lost their lives in the Gul Plaza tragedy has been confirmed. A total of 11 bodies have been identified so far. At least 17 dead bodies remain at the morgue pending DNA identification.
