Police submit 27-point security plan for Basant to LHC

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Lahore police have submitted a 27-point security plan to the Lahore High Court, in an effort to ensure safe celebrations of Basant in the city.

According to the police report, the provincial government will provide 5,000 rickshaws to facilitate free transport services during Basant days. Based on an analysis of the past ten years, authorities have identified kite-flying hotspot areas across the city. For effective security management, Lahore will be divided into three zones, Red, Yellow, and Green.

The report states that motorcycles without antennas will not be allowed to enter Red Zones during Basant. In these areas, helmet use will be mandatory for both the rider and the passenger. To curb illegal activities on rooftops, security personnel will be deployed across the city during the festival.

Only approved cotton thread will be permitted for kite flying, while strict action will be taken against those involved in manufacturing or selling chemical-coated or metallic strings. Areas with high kite-flying activity will be monitored using drone cameras to ensure compliance with safety regulations.

Quick Response Teams (QRTs) will remain on standby to deal with any emergencies. Additionally, an awareness campaign on safe kite flying will be launched through newspapers and social media. The police will also coordinate closely with LESCO to prevent and promptly respond to electricity-related incidents during the Basant festivities.

Authorities say the plan is designed to balance cultural celebration with public safety and will be implemented under strict supervision.
