Fraud case: Khurram Rasool sent on 3-day physical remand

The Rawalpindi court gave three-day physical remand of Khurram Rasool to FIA.

The Civil Court has given a 3-day physical remand of Kurram Rasool to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in fraud caseEarlier, the FIA has demanded a 7-day physical remand of Khurram Rasool.Talking to the media Khurram Rasool said that all his business dealings were before his appointment as prime ministers media coordinator, adding that the prime minister has no concern with his business dealings.The case was under trial against Khurram Rasool who did not return loan worth 20 million attained from a private bank.Rawalpindi Banking Court Judge Roy Nazir conducted hearing of the case and, after listening arguments, ordered to seize his property due to nonpayment of due loan.On the other hand, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said that Khuram Rasool fraud case encompasses important names; now it is become a high profile case.The three-judge bench comprising of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Tariq Parvez, in its order said Khurram was not arrested despite court’s orders and the credit of his arrest cannot be given to FIA or to its DG.Additional DG FIA said that Rasool’s elder brother Shahid Mahmood was on pre arrest bail.The bench was hearing an application moved by Parvez Hussain, a businessman of Afghan carpets, accusing Khurram Rasool of defrauding him of Rs 430 million.While recording statement before the Supreme Court (SC), Khurram said his family has been threatened, insulted and his children could not go to school for the past 1 year.I was told even PM will be kidnapped; I surrendered as I have confidence in courts. The accused made it clear that when he arranged the gas deal, he was not media coordinator to Prime Minister.Rashid A Rizvi, the businessmens lawyer said Khurram gave cheques from accounts that had been closed and allegations of threats are wrong.CJ while passing his remarks said that the LHC did not granted the accused bail while the Accountability Court awarded penalty to Khurram Rasool but the FIA is not ready to arrest him. He said that the statements released under Section 164 exposed big names. So far the credibility of these names is concerned it would be crystal clear with the passage of time.He said that this case has become a high profile; so other agencies should also include in its investigation.Khurram Rasool surrendered himself to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on early Friday morning. He has been convicted in the banking fraud case and Rawalpindi Accountability Court had sentenced Khurram Rasool to three years in jail on Thursday.The Supreme Court on January 25 had directed FIA to immediately arrest Khurram Rasool and produce him on January 27.
