(Web Desk) - Goods transporters nationwide strike has paralyzed Pakistan’s supply chain, disrupting the movement of food items, industrial raw materials, and other essential commodities across the country.

With thousands of trucks and containers stranded at terminals in major cities, business operations have slowed to a standstill.

Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) President Faheem Ur Rehman Saigol voiced deep concern over goods transporters strike. “The strike of goods transporters has also posed a serious threat to the continuity of economic activities. The transport sector is considered the backbone of economic activity. And when this flow stops, more than the food supply, industrial output, exports, and overall business continuity is directly affected,” said Faheem Ur Rehman Saigol, President LCCI.

LCCI Senior Vice-President Tanveer Ahmed Sheikh and Vice-President Khurram Lodhi, in a statement on Thursday, said abrupt regulations coupled with heavy fines create instability for the business community. Urging the need for proper consultation with all stakeholders prior to formulating policies, they cautioned that disinclination towards the problems and issues of the industry leads to emergence of crisis situation like the present strike.

The Chamber has offered mediation between the government and transporter associations to help resolve the deadlock.

The LCCI leadership, while calling for a full review of the traffic ordinance, insisted that decisions in the future had to be taken in coordination with the transport sector. They warned further disruption could delay export shipments, shut down production lines and fuel inflation.

“The government and transport alliance must adopt an immediate joint strategy; this is what we expect, believing that constructive dialogue would restore normal economic activity nationwide,” the statement added.
