LHC achieves landmark progress under CJ Aalia Neelum's reforms

LAHORE (Muhammad Ashfaq) – The Lahore High Court (LHC) has delivered judgments in more than 2,700 pending tax cases during September and October 2025 — a record performance reflecting the success of administrative and case management reforms introduced by Chief Justice Justice Aalia Neelum.

Under the LHC chief justice, the court’s reform initiatives have significantly accelerated the resolution of tax-related disputes, ensuring timely justice and improving judicial efficiency. Through coordinated efforts between the LHC’s principal seat and its benches, a total of 2,721 cases were decided within just two months.

For years, the government had expressed concern that stay orders in financial cases caused billions in pending revenue matters. However, CJ Neelum’s decisive actions have enhanced the pace of judicial decisions, contributing to better financial governance.

Legal experts and bar associations have praised the chief justice for ensuring swift justice.

Senior lawyer Ahsan Bhoon noted that quick disposal of tax cases will end long-standing financial deadlocks, while legal expert Naseer Kamboh highlighted that in the past, stay orders often delayed revenue recovery — a problem now being effectively addressed.

The Lahore High Court’s reforms not only mark a step toward prompt justice but also strengthen Pakistan’s fiscal discipline through timely adjudication of tax matters.
