PMD announces schedule for solar, lunar eclipses in 2026

The Pakistan Meteorological Department released the 2026 eclipse schedule. Two solar and two lunar eclipses will occur, with only one lunar eclipse partially visible in Pakistan on March 3.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Pakistan Meteorological Department has officially released the schedule for solar and lunar eclipses occurring in 2026.
According to the announcement, there will be two solar eclipses and two lunar eclipses that year, with only one of the lunar eclipses being partially visible from Pakistan.
The first solar eclipse will occur on February 17, 2026, starting at 3:00 PM (Pakistan Standard Time), reaching its peak at 5:00 PM, and concluding at 7:30 PM. However, this eclipse will not be visible in Pakistan.
The first lunar eclipse of the year will take place on March 3, 2026, and will be partially visible in some parts of Pakistan.
The second solar eclipse is expected on August 12-13, but it will not be visible from Pakistan either. The second lunar eclipse of the year will occur on August 28, but it will not be visible in Pakistan or most of South Asia.
Astronomers explain that these celestial events occur due to slight changes in the Earth's orbit and the angles between the Sun and the Moon, providing valuable opportunities for scientists to further study the dynamics of space.
