Ishaq Dar meets Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami chief, calls for closer ties

DHAKA (Dunya News) – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has met Dr Shafiqur Rahman, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami chief, during his visit to Dhaka to touch base on strengthening Pakistan–Bangladesh relations.
According to the Foreign Office, the meeting was held at Dr Rahman’s residence, where he is recovering from a heart surgery. Ishaq Dar inquired after his health and conveyed best wishes from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as well as from himself, wishing him a speedy recovery.
Dar praised Dr Rahman’s contributions in politics, education, and social welfare, saying his work had left a lasting mark. He also underlined the importance of mending fences and building bridges between the two countries for a brighter future.
Dr Shafiqur Rahman, in return, stressed the need for greater closeness and stronger ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh. Both sides saw eye to eye on enhancing bilateral cooperation.

The meeting was also attended by Jamaat-e-Islami’s Deputy Ameer Dr Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher and other senior leaders.
A day earlier, Dar had also sat down with a Jamaat-e-Islami delegation at the Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka, where both sides discussed ways to cement relations and shared views on recent regional developments.
The Foreign Office said Dar appreciated the resilience of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami despite tough times, adding that Pakistan would continue to keep the door open for closer cooperation.
