Torrential downpours caused severe urban flooding in Islamabad, Pindi
PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Torrential rains coupled with strong wind and thunderstorm once again wreaked havoc in parts of the country, leaving 14 dead and 60 injured.
DERA ISMAIL KHAN
In DI Khan, downpours and strong wind battered parts of the city and its suburbs, claiming lives of 10 people, leaving 60 injured.
With this natural disaster, the district administration imposed an emergency and issued precautions for the masses.
The rains and thunderstorm disrupted power supply, plunging the affected-localities in darkness. Roofs, solar panels, walls, trees and poles were taken down by the heavy rainfalls.
ISLAMABAD, RAWALPINDI
In the twin cities, torrential downpours caused severe urban flooding, submerging areas including Bhara Kahu and Athal Chowk. Rains and flash floods filled local streams and drains. In Islamabad, Bhara Kahu Athal Chowk area was inundated, with water entering homes and shops. Several vehicles were stranded at different locations.

Following the downpour in Islamabad, the spillways of Rawal Dam have been opened. Due to the heavy rain, hiking trails 2, 3, 4, and 5 in the Margalla Hills will remain closed today, along with the trail located behind Saidpur Village.
KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA
Peshawar, Mardan, and North and South Waziristan received heavy rainfalls. In Skardu, heavy rain has been forecast starting today. Authorities have advised the public and tourists to avoid unnecessary travel.
Due to fears of rising water levels in the Gilgit River, all hotels located along the riverbanks have been ordered to shut down.
It is worth mentioning that the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a severe rainfall alert for most parts of the country, effective until August 30.
