The MQM leader offers to guide Sindh government on how to run Karachi
KARACHI (Dunya News) – Senior MQM leader Dr Farooq Sattar has come down hard on the Sindh government, saying the PPP has failed to manage Karachi and should sit with his party to learn how the city can be run.
Speaking to the media in Karachi, Sattar said the administration has clearly thrown in the towel as garbage remains uncollected across the city. He added that if drains had been cleaned properly, rainwater could have been flushed out up to 400 millimeters.
“Karachi is treated like a colony you’ve occupied,” he remarked. “You couldn’t handle the very first spell of monsoon rains, yet you claim to be ready for the next one. Yesterday’s rainwater is still standing on the city’s roads, and all the tall claims of the municipal bodies have been washed away.”
The MQM leader pointed out that while the Governor of Sindh visited rain-hit areas and MQM lawmakers stayed with the people on the ground, the PPP leadership — including the Sindh Chief Minister and Mayor – was nowhere to be seen.
Sattar said the heavy rainfall has exposed 17 years of PPP’s poor governance. “Almost every neighborhood is in the same mess. Karachi is being treated unfairly,” he noted.
He further stated, “Stop pulling the wool over people’s eyes. We won’t just criticise – we’ll lay out a roadmap. The city is already ruined, and rains have made things even worse. In areas like Nazimabad, water is still standing inside people’s homes.”
Demanding accountability, he asked PPP to explain what kind of ‘rain emergency’ it had declared. “If we decide to go our separate way, no one will be spared. The Mayor of Karachi must give a full account of the funds he has received,” he said.
Taking a swipe at political rivals, Sattar also accused Jamaat-e-Islami of being missing in action, claiming they are only obsessed with MQM instead of serving Karachi. He urged the government to declare the city a calamity-hit area.
