ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced its verdict in the dual nationality case against SIC MPA Imtiaz Mahmood, rejecting the disqualification reference filed by Rashda Lodhi and Naeem Shehzad.

The petition accused Mahmood of concealing his Canadian citizenship, but the ECP accepted his certificate of renunciation, confirming that he had formally given up Canadian nationality on December 10, 2022, well before submitting his nomination papers on December 21, 2023.

The case was reviewed under Articles 63(2)(3) and 127 of the Constitution, and after hearing arguments, the commission dismissed the reference, ruling that Mahmood had not violated any legal provisions. The petition had also requested that Naeem Shehzad be declared the next successful candidate, a plea that was rejected.

The decision, based on the evidence presented, was issued on July 17, 2025, by ECP members Nisar Durrani, Shah Jatoi, Babar Hassan, and Ikramullah, who unanimously declared the reference unfounded.
