KARACHI (Dunya News) - The murder case of senior lawyer Shamsul Islam in Karachi has taken a dramatic turn after arrested suspect Imran Afridi confessed to the killing, claiming it was an act of personal revenge.
During police interrogation, Imran Afridi revealed that he killed Shamsul Islam because the lawyer had allegedly kidnapped and brutally tortured his father, leading to his death.
He said the dispute stemmed from a financial transaction of Rs 3.5 million between his father and the deceased lawyer.
Afridi further alleged that Shamsul Islam filed false cases against his family, including terrorism charges, and even implicated the women of his family in baseless FIRs.
The suspect said in his confession, "I killed him because I never received justice. None of my relatives or friends were involved in the murder, it was solely my act of revenge."
Police have stated that further investigation is underway based on the confession and evidence to bring the case to its logical conclusion.
Meanwhile, the murder of the senior lawyer has sparked outrage among the legal fraternity and civil society, with calls for a transparent investigation and justice.
