KARACHI (Dunya News) – The Sindh High Court has suspended the decision of the provincial ombudsman to remove Moonis Alvi as K-Electric CEO in a harassment case filed by a former female officer.

Moonis Alvi had challenged the ombudsman's ruling before the high court where he appeared alongside his counsel, Barrister Abid Zuberi.

The high court has directed Alvi to deposit a penalty amount of Rs2.5 million with the Nazir of the Sindh High Court.

The court has issued notices to both the provincial ombudsman and the complainant, seeking their responses.

A day earlier, the Sindh Ombudsperson ordered the removal of K-Electric CEO Moonis Alvi and imposed a fine of Rs2.5 million on him over harassment charges.

Provincial Ombudsperson Justice (retired) Shahnawaz Tariq sentenced K-Electric CEO Moonis Alvi on the complaint filed by the company’s former chief marketing officer, Mehreen Zehra, accusing him of harassment and mental torture.

During the hearing, the provincial Ombudsperson found the allegations credible and ordered Moonis Alvi to be removed from his position.

Additionally, he was fined Rs2.5 million. The order also stated that if the fine is not paid within a month, the amount will be recovered by seizing bank accounts or property.

Furthermore, it was directed that Alvi's national identity card and passport be blocked if the fine remains unpaid.

Mehreen Zehra was hired by K-Electric in 2019 as a consultant.

Earlier this month, K-Electric’s Board of Directors had reappointed Moonis Alvi as CEO, effective July 30, 2025.

He has been with the company since 2008, previously serving as CFO, Company Secretary, and Head of Treasury.
