ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – State Minister for Interior Talal Chaudhry has stated that terrorist organisations are recruiting youth through social media platforms.

Addressing a press conference, he said that freedom of expression is not being silenced but is being turned into a barrier against terrorism.

“Pakistan is a strong frontline state in the global fight against terrorism and has identified hundreds of terrorism-linked social media accounts,” he added.

He further noted that the United Nations has sanctioned ISIS-K and TTP, while the US and the UK have declared the BLA a terrorist organisation. Groups like TTP, ISIS-K, BLA, and BLF are actively spreading propaganda and recruiting youth through social media.

Chaudhry added that 2,417 complaints related to terrorist content on social media are currently under review. He stressed that social media companies must use AI tools to promptly remove terrorist content.

On the occasion, Minister of State for Law and Justice Barrister Aqeel Malik said that terrorist propaganda is a punishable offense under PECA (Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act). Pakistan has appealed for international cooperation against digital terrorism and urged social media companies to share data and enhance cooperation.

He revealed that Pakistan has invited foreign social media companies to open offices in the country and has demanded the shutdown of terrorist accounts, automatic content blocking, and access to relevant data from these platforms.
