Punjab IG, Advocate General summoned on recent incidents in educational institutions

LHC seeks a report on an incident of a private college.
LAHORE (Muhammad Ashfaq) - Lahore High Court (LCWU) has summoned Punjab IG, Punjab Advocate General and Registrar of Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) in personal capacity tomorrow.
LHC Chief Justice Aalia Neelum heard an application filed by citizen Azam Butt for investigation of recent incidents in Lahore’s educational institutions.
Advocate Rana Sikandar representing the applicant presented the arguments during the case hearing today.
CJ remarked that a case was being proceeded in a full-bench and Punjab IG had been directed to submit a report on an incident of a private college.
CJ Neelum dismayed over the incident, saying, an innocent girl was maligned and disrespected despite the fact it was unknown whether she was subjected to crime or not.
Chief justice enraged, stating, “how the Punjab IG could be negligent that he let the videos and pictures circulated, in fact Anti-Rape Act doesn’t allow the publishing of victim’s name.”
She ordered the court to inform the court that why didn't the police take the action after propagation of pictures and videos.
CJ Neelum directed all the officers to appear in the court along with record tomorrow and also ordered Punjab IG to submit report on the incident of Punjab University’s student suicide.
She stated that the court needed a handwritten daily record book of this incident nor the computerised one.
Applicant’s lawyer contended that the Punjab Assembly speaker stated on the floor of the assembly that LCWU’s VC had informed him that the university was unable to take action against harassment.
CJ inquired about the nature of complaints and harassment.
Lawyer stated that the media had reported on the incident of harassment and he came to know about it through the media. However, the incident of suicide of Punjab University’s student must be investigated, lawyer added.
Consequently, Lahore High Court adjourned the case hearing until tomorrow.
