ECP grants JUI-F 60 days to conduct intra-party elections

The JUI-F lawyer requested a 60-day extension
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has granted the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) a 60-day period to conduct intra-party elections.
A three-member commission, chaired by the Chief Election Commissioner, heard the case, with junior lawyers representing JUI-F.
During the hearing, JUI-F's lawyer stated that the party's elections were being held in phases, with the most time-consuming process being the elections for district units. He submitted documents outlining the election schedule.
The lawyer informed the ECP that the intra-party election process began in July and requested a 60-day extension.
The Chief Election Commissioner remarked that 60 days seemed excessive. The JUI-F lawyer explained that ongoing constitutional reforms had caused delays.
Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja clarified that constitutional reforms were not related to intra-party elections. He also noted that JUI-F's elections in the federal territory were scheduled for September 29, after which no extension would be granted.
The ECP subsequently adjourned the hearing, allowing JUI-F 60 days to conduct the elections, with a new date for the hearing to be announced later.
