ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - A petition has been filed in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against the arrest of Rafaqat Tanoli, the father of Shakeel Tanoli who was killed in a car collision accident in 2022.

In the petition filed in the IHC, Islamabad police IG, Kohsar police station and Kahna police station SHO and Islamabad DC have been made respondents.

It was requested in the petition to court to order the release of Rafaqat Tanoli and other family members.

In the petition, it was contended that a protest was organised outside the press club against violation of court order in Shakeel Tanoli murder case. It was alleged that the Kahna police station SHO assaulted the protestors illegally.

It was mentioned in the petition that demonstrators were arrested, kidnapped and detained in the unidentified location.

The filed mentioned implied that Rafaqat Tanoli was the plaintiff in his son, Shakeel Tanoli murder case and has the due right to protest.

Relevant officers must be summoned to meet justice principles, Rafaqat Tanoli must be released and take action against misuse of authority by parties, the petition prayed.

The petitioner requested in the petition to order Kohsar police station SHO to follow the court’s June 24 decision and record the statement of Rafaqat Tanoli.

Why family was protesting?

The family members of Shakeel Tanoli, who was killed after being hit by a car two years ago in Islamabad, set up a protest camp outside the National Press Club to seek justice.

The protesters demanded action against those responsible for the death of Shakeel Tanoli in the car accident two years ago.

Shakeel's father Rafaqat Tanoli told media that it was found during a police investigation that the vehicle was being used by an ‘influential’ from Punjab.

The complainant said that the family members of the suspect also came to his house in Mansehra district and warned him of dire consequences if he pursued the case.
