LHC judge refers electricity loadshedding plea to another judge
Pakistan
Justice Faisal Zaman conducts proceedings
LAHOE (Dunya News) – A judge from the Lahore High Court returned a petition regarding unannounced electricity loadshedding to acting Chief Justice Shujaat Ali Khan on Monday, requesting that it be assigned to another bench for hearing.
Justice Faisal Zaman Khan conducted the hearing.
During the proceedings, Advocate Azhar Siddique, representing the Judicial Activism Panel, presented his arguments.
However, the judge referred the case back to the acting chief justice, asking for it to be scheduled for a hearing by Justice Shahid Karim who was already handling a similar petition.
The petition highlights that despite the country's capacity to generate 40,000 MW of electricity, actual production remains capped at 28,000 MW.
It argues that the failure to provide this basic necessity to the public constitutes a serious violation of the constitution.
The petition further points out that cities are experiencing power cuts lasting up to eight hours, while villages face cuts of up to 12 hours.
