Punjab administration put on high alert in anticipation of heavy monsoon rainfall

Forecast indicates varying amounts of rainfall across different weeks in July
LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has placed the administration of Punjab on high alert in anticipation of a projected 35 percent increase in monsoon rainfall this year.
According to the PDMA, the forecast indicates varying amounts of rain across different weeks in July: 15 to 50 millimeters in the first week, 25 to 35 millimeters in the second week, 15 to 25 millimeters in the third week in Upper and South Punjab and up to 70 millimeters later in the final week of the month.
In a statement, the PDMA warned of heavy rains accompanied by thunder and lightning in Upper, Central and South Punjab. There is a heightened risk of urban flooding due to monsoon rains and flash flooding in hill torrents in South Punjab.
All relevant departments have been alerted as per instructions from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
In the statement, PDMA DG Irfan Ali Kathia said that district administrations must ensure all safety measures were in place during the monsoon season. He directed immediate cleaning of rivers and drainage systems.
Kathia highlighted the importance of mutual cooperation and early preparations to minimise losses from natural disasters. He also urged the public to take necessary precautions during the rainy season.
