Both emphasise mutual cooperation for joint benefits in their meeting in London
LONDON (Haseeb Arslan) - Secretary General of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Stephen Twigg called on Pakistan's National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in London on Saturday.
During the meeting, the NA speaker reiterated that as one of the founding members, Pakistan fully subscribed to the fundamental values of the Commonwealth.
He said the Commonwealth had immense potential to enhance its relevance in the current geopolitical and economic scenarios for the welfare of citizens of commonwealth nations.
He highlighted that the National Assembly of Pakistan was focusing on capacity building of its members and staff while also emphasising on the collaboration between CPA and Pakistan Institute of Parliamentary Services (PIPS) for training of members and staff, particularly in drafting legislations and rules of business of parliament.
Stephen Twigg appreciated the role of Pakistan in carrying forward the development agenda of the Commonwealth as an important partner.
He informed the Speaker that CPA had established links with the UK universities for courses on parliamentary studies and Pakistani universities could also collaborate as joint ventures.
