The PMA’s Islamabad chapter condemned the federal health ministry for the move
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) has resisted the proposed appointment of Army Medical Corps officials to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and the Polyclinic Hospital.
The PMA’s Islamabad chapter in a hurriedly-called meeting condemned the federal health ministry for the attempt to appoint army officers in civil institutions.
A letter by the Ministry of Health has gone viral on social media according to which the civil department had requested the Ministry of Defence to ensure availability of “qualified and capable hospital managers” of grade 21 officers from the Army Medical Corps as executive director of PIMS and Polyclinic on deputation for three years and “until further orders” under standard terms and conditions.
Responding to the letter, PMA Islamabad office-bearers Mian Rasheed, Dr Riaz Shahbaz Janjua, Dr Muhammad Ajmal, Dr Abid Saeed, Dr Umer Farooq, Dr Rana Farooq and others warned the health ministry against the move.
They rejected the federal government officials’ move and said that even the military authorities would not welcome the step taken by the federal health ministry.
Meanwhile, a spokesman for the federal health ministry had earlier stated that the appointment would be carried out as per recruitment rules, saying the government believes that merit should be followed.
