ISLAMABAD (APP) - As many as nine Pakistani young scientists have been selected for participation in the 73rd Nobel Laureate Meetings (NLM) on Physics at Germany.

According to details, the interviews of short-listed candidates for participation in the 73rd Nobel Laureate Meetings (NLM) on Physics were held on October 23 in Islamabad.

The interaction of young Pakistani scientists with Nobel Laureates is a joint programme of HEC, PIEAS, and the Council for Nobel Laureate Meetings in Lindau, Germany.

The project is being funded by HEC out of its recurring funds for the promotion of higher education and human resource development in Pakistan.

Interview panel comprised of Prof. Dr. Naseem Irfan (Rector, PIEAS), Prof. Dr. Abdullah Sadiq (Former Rector PIEAS), Dr. Shaukat Hameed (Visiting professor COMSATS University), Dr. Mutawarra Hussain (Former Director NLM programme), Dr. Aftab Rafiq (Director NLM programme, PIEAS), Amir Hakeem (Director HRD, HEC), Dr. Waqas Ahmed (Project Director, HEC STEM Careers Programme) and Dr. Nadeem Shaukat (Coordinator NLM Programme).

A total of 514 applications were received among which 22 candidates were shortlisted for the interview.

Through the interview process, the name of 9 selected candidates (Ms. Bushra Sana Idrees, Ms. Amara Nasir, Ms. Maryam Shabbir, Ms. Jawaria Mudassir Naeem, Raja Yasir Mehmood Khan, Shakir Mahmood Musa, Ms. Fatima Zafar, Ms. Maryam Ahsan) were forwarded to Lindau council in Germany, which will make the final decision to attend the 73rd NLM.

This project will provide a unique opportunity to the selected candidates to interact with 30 to 40 Nobel Laureates and more than 600 fellow participants from over 75 countries at Lindau, Germany.

Nineteen teams of young scholars from Pakistan have already participated in the past annual meetings since 2003.
