Military courts start May 9 accused trial, SC told
LAHORE (Dunya News) – The military courts have started trials of the Pakistan citizens involved in the May 9 incidents and the government informed the Supreme Court (SC) in this regard.
Sources said the government has submitted a writer report to the SC on the matter of trail of civilians in the military court.
In response to the SC’s August 3 orders, the SC was told that the trial was need of the hour to let them go escort free who are not involved in the incidents.
A total of 102 people were detained for allegedly attacking the military installation.
The SC was also informed the accused who attacked ISI Establishment Civil Lines Faisalabad and Cantonment Sialkot would be tried in the military courts. All the accused were detained under Pakistan Army Act 1952.
The sources say Justice Ijazul Ahsan would head a five-member larger bench and hear the petitions against the trials in the military courts tomorrow.
At the final hearing, attorney general assured the SC that the trials would not be started without informing the apex court.
The attorney general’s assurance was included by the SC in the court’s order of August 3 hearing.
