13,621 held, Rs17.67bn recovered during countrywide crackdown on power pilferers

27,381 cases were registered against defaulters
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – During the ongoing crackdown on power pilferers across the country, the authorities have apprehended 13,621 people, besides recovering Rs17.67 billion after registering 27,381 cases.
As far as the registration of case, arrests and making recoveries are concerned, Lahore is at the top of the list. In Lesco Lahore, 12778 cases were registered whereas 4587 people were booked. Moreover 4.61 billion rupees were recovered.۔
In Gepco, 1,473 cases were registered and 779 arrests were made, besides recoveries of Rs510 million were made. In Fesco, authorities after registering 2,358 cases and arresting 1,932 people recovered Rs700 million dues.
In Iesco, authorities booked 349 people, apprehended 263 accused and made recoveries amounting to Rs380 million. Likewise in Mepco, 5856 cases were registered, 4688 people were arrested and Rs1.90 billion were deposited in the treasury.
In Pesco, authorities made recoveries of Rs3.17 billion after registering 3008 cases and arresting 1017 power thieves. Similarly in Tesco tribal areas, 57 case were registered and 16 people were arrested. Authorities recovered 60 million rupees from the defaulters.
Stern action is being taken against the apprehended accused under the law. Authorities said the crackdown on power thieves will be intensified in the days to come.
