RPPs scam: Accountability Court summons Raja Pervaiz Ashraf in person

Ex-PM is accused of misusing his authority amounting to about Rs22 billion loss in RPPs
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Accountability Court Islamabad on Thursday summoned National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf to attend the next hearing in person.
The cases against Raja Pervaiz Ashraf were heard by Judge Muhammad Bashir. However, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf did not appear in Accountability Court No. 3.
Pleader Arshad Tabraiz appeared before the accountability court on behalf of the speaker Ashraf, after which the court adjourned the hearing of the case til November 2.
It may be noted that Raja Pervaiz Ashraf is an accused in the reference related to Reshma, Gulf Power Plant, and other projects.
It is to be recalled that the court had in 2019 framed charges against Ashraf on three RPPs including Reshma Power Generation Private Limited, Gulf Rental Power Private Limited, and Young Gen Power Limited.

The RPPs case is about private power companies that faced allegations of receiving more than Rs22 billion mobilisation advance from the government to commission the projects but failed to set up the plants.
A few of them had set up the plants, but only after an inordinate delay.
The ex-PM is accused of misusing his authority during his tenure as power minister for approval of increasing down payment to the rental power companies from 7 to 14 percent, amounting to about Rs22 billion.
