Gas reserves further depleted by 18 percent as compared to the last year
(Web Desk) – The consumers will face gas shortage in the coming winter as the caretaker minister categorically states that utility will be available for eight hours only due to the scant supply.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, minister Muhammad Ali said the natural gas reserves further depleted by 18 percent as compared to the last year and in given circumstances the government could not provide the utility round the clock. He said the country was facing the gas load-shedding for a couple of years.
He said the government is going to review the gas supply plan so that we could provide utility to consumers eight hours a day.
Talking about the gas supply issue of the industry sector, the minister said hopefully it would be resolved in Dec as two liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes are finalized for December. He said we are trying our level best to ensure supply for domestic, fertilizer and industrial sectors in the fast approaching winter.
Shedding light on the crackdown on power thieves and the recovery, the minister said Rs16 billion had been collected from defaulters yet. He said the crackdown would remain on.
The minister also hinted that the government was going to change all the power distribution companies (DISCOs) board of directors and the management of DISCOs would be given to the private sector.
