Pakistan

The DC tells the court he has withdrawn the order

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Islamabad deputy commissioner (DC) has withdrawn the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) order issued against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf President Chaudhry Parvez Elahi.

The DC informed Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri of the Islamabad High Court on Tuesday that the MPO order issued against former Punjab chief minister Elahi had been withdrawn. The court disposed of the petition filed by Elahi.

The court asked the number of the FIR in which Elahi had been arrested.

After suspending the MPO order, the court ordered release of Elahi and summoned the Islamabad DC in a personal capacity.

Bail application

A few days earlier, the Anti-Terrorism Court of Islamabad adjourned the hearing on Parvez Elahi's bail application.

Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain of the ATC heard the application of Elahi and his lawyer Abdul Raziq appeared in court. The prosecution did not submit the records.

The lawyer requested for the medical test of the former chief minister and the court approved the request and issued instructions to the superintendent of Adiala jail.

Later, the court adjourned the hearing on PTI President Elahi's bail application.

Plea of Elahi's wife

Wife of PTI president Parvez Elahi on Saturday filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking recovery of her husband.

The wife of Mr Elahi has challenged a decision of the Lahore High Court (LHC) to dispose of her petition regarding recovery of her husband as ineffective.

The former Punjab chief minister is currently in the custody of the Islamabad police in a terrorism case registered against him on Sept 3. He was arrested shortly after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) ordered his release by suspending his detention under Maintenance of Public Order.

The PTI leader’s wife had also pleaded apex court to stop the authorities from arresting him in any undisclosed case. She also asked SC to direct the authorities to produce the PTI leader before court.

Mr Elahi’s wife made caretaker Punjab government, secretary home department and the Punjab police chief respondents in the case.
