In video, she admits to torture inflicted on her maid, threatens to involve police
AHORE (Dunya News) - A video has emerged showing the former federal minister and spokesperson of Pakistan Istekham-e-Party Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan allegedly abusing and assaulting a domestic help.
The incident soon went viral on social media, as it came at a time when case of Rizwana, another housemaid, prompted a strong response from state as well as masses, after the domestic help endured severe torture while working at the residence of a civil judge house.
The incident highlights a pattern of violence against young domestic workers. In the mobile phone video, she admitted to the torture inflicted on her maid and threatened to involve the police. The former federal minister also allegedly demanded money from the person who recorded the video and hurled threats towards them.
The IPP leader hinted at approaching cybercrime cell against those who shared her clip, calling for a probe against those who shared her video. A video showing Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan saying she slapped the maid for telling a lie went viral.
In June 2021, she made headlines as a clip showed her getting into a physical altercation with PPP’s Qadir Khan Mandokhail and hurling threats and abuses at him.
She was a special assistant to the Punjab chief minister when the incident occurred. Mandokhail approached the police to register a case against Firdouse Ashiq Awan.
He also moved the court to get the case registered as, according to him, the police did not pay heed to his complaint.
