Rs12bn being refunded to Hajj pilgrims: minister

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Federal Minister for Religious Affairs, Talha Mahmood, on Thursday announced that the pilgrims of the government Hajj scheme will be additionally refunded.

During a press conference, Mr Mahmood said that previously, under the government scheme, those who had performed Hajj were refunded Rs55,000, and now an additional Rs97,000 will be refunded to the pilgrims.

Mr Mahmood announced that the payment of the amount will commence next Monday, and every penny saved will be refunded.

He further stated that for the year 2024, they have brought a Hajj quota of 179,210, and efforts will be made to ensure no compromise in Hajj arrangements.

They have recommended that by utilising maritime routes, land routes, and budget-friendly accommodations, the cost of Hajj can be reduced.

Mahmood expressed his desire to further reduce the cost of Hajj next year, stating that more Rs12 billion are being refunded to the pilgrims, and Rs4 billion have already been refunded to them.
