KHYBER (Dunya News) – In a tragic incident, additional SHO Adnan Afridi was martyred in a blast which occurred in Khyber district's Ali Masjid area on Tuesday.

Rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the blast scene after the word got around about it and law-enforcement agencies (LEAs) cordoned off the area.

Police confirmed that the SHO lost his life.

Speaking to media, Peshawar Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ashfaq Anwar said, "The additional SHO was part of the police party that was chasing the suspected suicide bomber and was martyred in the blast".

He said that after receiving information about the presence of suspicious persons, the police party reached the area. He added that the accused ran away after seeing the police.

"During the chase, they entered the mosque where Additional SHO Adnan Afridi was martyred," the CCPO said, adding that "an accomplice of the suicide bomber has been arrested".

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari condemned the incident and paid tribute to the martyred policeman.

The nation is proud of the brave officers and jawans of the KP police, he added.

He said that Adnan Afridi sacrificed his life to destroy the nefarious intentions of terrorists.

This is one of many incidents of terrorism in the recent past. Last week, four policemen were martyred and 10 others injured in a blast near a police station in Bara Bazaar of Khyber district.

The attack was carried out at the gate of the tehsil compound where the Bara police station, a cell of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and other government offices are located.

Police officials deputed at the gate were checking the people entering the compound when the explosion occurred following a heavy gunfire.

According to police, two terrorists, who reached the place by a car, attempted to enter the compound from front and rear sides. The police officials foiled the bid to enter the compound and apparently they blew themselves up after facing resistance.
