Death toll in cylinder explosion in Jhelum rises to seven

An emergency has been declared in the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) Jhelum

JHELUM (Dunya News) - The death toll in cylinder explosion at a hotel in Jhelum rose to seven as another dead body was recovered from the debris on late Sunday night, Dunya News reported.

Earlier in the day, a cylinder exploded in the kitchen of a three-storey hotel located on Grand Trunk (GT) Road in Jhelum. A portion of the building collapsed and six people lost their lives. According to rescue officials, 12 people were injured in the tragic incident. 

Soon after the incident, the rescue teams, police and other personnel of law-enforcement agencies arrived at the site and cordoned off the area. An emergency has been declared in the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) of Jhelum.

Some of the injured are still under the debris and rescue work is in progress. The deputy commissioner and the district police officer (DPO) are supervising the rescue operation.
