Mystery shrouds suicide by Jahangir Tareen's brother in Lahore

The motive behind the extreme step by the businessman is yet to be ascertained

LAHORE (Web Desk) - Alamgir Tareen, the brother of Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) patron-in-chief Jahangir Khan Tareen, committed suicide under mysterious circumstances in the provincial capital on Thursday. 

Sources told Dunya News that Tareen, 63, shot himself in the temple at his Gulberg apartment. IPP leaders confirmed the unfortunate incident.  A police team dashed to the crime scene and launched investigation.  

Jahangir Tareen, who was presiding over the party meeting, left for his brother's house soon after he came to know about the tragic happening.

Police sources said Alamgir had left behind a hand-written suicide note in which he mentioned his illness. His acquaintances, however, expressed their ignorance about any illness.  

Alamgir was a known businessman who owned PSL's Multan Sultans and was also its managing director. His family said Alamgir was unmarried and was scheduled to tie the knot in December. He will be laid to rest at 10pm today (Thursday).

PROFILE 

Alamgir was the owner of Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Multan Sultans. He was a leading businessman in South Punjab and operated one of the largest water purification plants in the country. 

He did his bachelors from the University of California at Berkeley and completed his master's degree from the Yale University. He ran an official website according to which he was a sports enthusiast who wanted to help aspiring sportsmen and women by providing them the best possible resources. 

Condolences pour in for Alamgir Tareen

Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Multan Sultans owner Alamgir Khan Tareen passed away in Lahore. The franchise confirmed the news in a tweet.

Lahore Qalandars team expressed grief and sorrow over the death of Alamgir Tareen.

They said they were saddened to hear the news of the death, adding the gap left behind will never be filled.

Islamabad United’s owner Ali Naqvi also expressed his condolences for the passing of his fellow franchise owner.

Cricket commentator and broadcaster Zainab Abbas also shared her thoughts on the demise of Alamgir Tareen.
