Islamabad court to indict Fawad Chaudhry on June 17 in sedition case

The case was registered for hurling threats at ECP officials in a speech

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – A district and sessions court in the federal capital has announced a date to frame charges against former information minister Fawad Chaudhry.

Additional Sessions Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra said Mr Chaudhry would be indicated on June 24 in case registered against him for his alleged threatening remarks against the officials of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

Police have invoked Sections 153-A (promotion of enmity between groups), 506 (criminal intimidation), 505 (statement conducing to public mischief), and 124-A (sedition) of the Pakistan Penal Code against Fawad over his speech.

The judge has ordered the former minister to ensure his appearance during next hearing. The court has provided the copies of the case to Fawad Chaudhry’s lawyer.
