Charbagh shooting on school van sparks protest

Pakistan

One student was killed and seven others were injured in the firing incident

SWAT (Web Desk) - A good number of people lodged a protest rally in Charbagh tehsil in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Swat on Wednesday to protest against Tuesday’s firing at a school van, which killed a student and injured seven others.

Police took constable Alam Khan into custody after he suddenly opened fire outside the Sangota Public School.

The suspect was presented before a court on Wednesday, where he confessed to the crime. The cop was subsequently sent to jail.

However, residents of Charbagh gathered at market and sought an immediate inquiry against the “black sheep” in police. They chanted anti-police slogans, condemned the “obnoxious act” of the police personnel and demanded that “extremist elements” within the police should be identified.

The protesters said the incident of firing at a school van by a policeman was shocking news as nobody could believe it. They warned that if police officials did not take notice of their demands, district-wide protests would be held.

The Swat District Bar Association also condemned the tragic incident and demanded the transfer of the district police officer.
