He says civilians should be prosecuted under criminal justice system

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Senator Raza Rabbani of the Pakistan Peoples Party, while sharing his opinion about the recent developments, said the civilians should not be tried under military courts and the criminal justice system should be used for this purpose.

He gave these remarks after the National Security Committee meeting which gave a go-ahead to hold the trial of rioters under the Army Act and the Officials Secret Act.

In a statement on Wednesday, the PPP stalwart said, “no leniency should be shown towards those who attacked, burnt and looted public and defence installations under a political agenda.”

He stressed that as civilians they should not be tried under Army Act as it would raise questions on transparency and rights awarded to an individual to defend himself.

The senator mentioned that military courts were established to deal with extremists at that time even though that too was wrong but civilians should not be prosecuted under military act.
