Nawaz, PM Shehbaz discuss possibility of elections in March-April

Nawaz Sharif asked PM Shehbaz to give important directions to the Punjab Governor.
LAHORE (Web Desk) – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held telephonic conversation with PML-N’s supremo Nawaz Sharif on Friday and discussed the ongoing political situation in Punjab, sources told Dunya News.
Sources said the PML-N leaders discussed a strategy to hold the general election in March or April this year. Nawaz Sharif asked PM Shehbaz to give important directions to the Punjab governor to tackle the political situation in Punjab.
Sources further said the premier also contacted former president and PPP co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari and discussed the political situation after the no-confidence vote episode.
According to the sources, the government officials have agreed to follow the constitution in Punjab and it has been decided to formulate a strategy under constitutional and legal consultation.
The development comes a day after Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi had signed a summary for dissolution of Punjab Assembly a day after he obtained the vote of confidence from the Punjab Assembly amid ruckus and opposition’s boycott following weeks of political turbulence in the province.
The decision to dissolve the assembly had been taken at a meeting between the chief minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan at Zaman Park, where senior party leaders were also present.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry said the Punjab chief minister had signed the summary asking the governor to dissolve the provincial assembly. The PTI leader said the advice had been sent to the Punjab governor. He said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly would also be dissolved with the Punjab Assembly.
Earlier, Imran Khan had completed consultation with the party leaders and decided to dissolve the Punjab Assembly. Sources said the PTI leaders had rejected the suggestion to delay dissolution of the provincial assembly till February.
