Imran Khan calls party meeting to deliberate on no-trust move against CM Elahi

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has called a meeting of party’s legal experts and senior leaders to discuss the no-confidence move filed by the opposition against Punjab Chief Minister Parvez Elahi.

A delegation of the PPP and the PML-N provincial lawmakers submitted a no-confidence motion against Mr Elahi, Speaker Sibtain Khan and Deputy Speaker Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi in the Punjab Assembly on Monday in a bid to prevent the dissolution of assembly. The PTI chief last week announced that the assemblies in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would be disbanded on Dec 23.

PPP Parliamentary Leader Hassan Murtaza, PML-N’s Khwaja Imran Nazir and PML-N chief whip Tahir Khalil Sindhu submitted the no-confidence motion to Punjab Assemly Secretary Inayatullah. The resolution stated, "Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi should seek another vote of confidence from the Punjab Assembly because he has lost the support of the House”.

Following the submission of the no-confidence motion, Governor Balighur Rehman summoned a session of the Punjab Assembly enabling the chief minister to seek the vote of confidence on Dec 21.

Imran Khan would review the legal perspectives of the no-confidence motion at the meeting. It would be discussed whether the governor could summon a new session when a Punjab Assembly session was on. The PTI chairman has asked his party’s MPAs to stay in Lahore.
