Opposition throws down no-confidence gauntlet to CM Elahi in Punjab Assembly
LAHORE (Dunya News) – In an extraordinary move, a delegation of the PPP and PML-N lawmakers submitted a no-confidence motion against Punjab Chief Minister Parvez Elahi, Speaker Sibtain Khan, and deputy speaker Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi in the Punjab Assembly.
Following their arrival at the Punjab Assembly Secretariat, opposition lawmakers PPP Parliamentary Leader Hassan Murtaza, PML-N’s Khawaja Imran Nazir, and PML-N Chief Whip Tahir Khalil Sindhu tabled a no-confidence motion.
The PML-N and PPP MPAs signed a no-confidence motion, which was accepted by Punjab Assemly Secretary Inayatullah.
The resolution stated, "Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi should seek another vote of confidence from the Punjab Assembly because he has lost the support of the House".

Meanwhile, Governor Balighur Rehman has asked the Punjab chief minister to obtain a vote of confidence from the assembly, citing Mr Elahi has lost confidence of his party chairman and members.
While the PML-N leader Atta Tarar said that the no-trust motion had been assembled against the Chief Minister, Speaker, and Deputy Speaker after consulting with allies. "The assemblies should serve out their full terms, according to our allies. Election preparation has also begun", added Tarar.
He went on to say these difficulties had been going on for a few days and that since the no-confidence motion was submitted now, the assemblies could not be dissolved – after tabling of no-confidence motion. He addied the Governor also issued an order in this regard.
PPP leader Hassan Murtaza said "Asif Zardari is a player of possibilities. Anybody he wants will be the next chief minister. The people will soon hear the good news. The question of whether or not our number is complete will be answered tomorrow."
On the other side, the Punjab Governor summoned a special meeting about the no-confidence motion on Wednesday at 4 pm.
PTI, PML-Q to jointly contest elections notwithstanding differences, says Imran Khan
Former prime minister Imran Khan on Monday reacted to Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi’s statement in favour of ex-COAS Qamar Javed Bajwa and said the PTI and the PML-Q would contest elections together apart from differences.
Sources said the deposed premier told the PTI stalwarts not to change their narrative, and not to get confused with CM Elahi’s statement. The PTI chief added that both parties would contest elections together apart from differences, sources added.
