Dar thinks Imran, CM Elahi aren’t on same page
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on Monday said Punjab chief minister Parvez Elahi’s statement reflected that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan and CM were not on same page.
Speaking to a TV interview, he said the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) were ready to face the PTI in elections if assemblies were dissolved on Dec 23 adding the matter of deciding date of elections rested with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
He said if the ECP completed census before the election, it would lead to peaceful elections as Sindh and Balochistan had expressed reservations on the census earlier. “If the ECP or court figures out a way to conduct elections, all the parties would be ready to contest”, he added.
Talking about meetings, he said political meetings were a part of political process adding CM Elahi would clarify his position in the coming days as Dec 23 was not far.
He said Mr Imran himself could not have won the elections adding it was Gen (retd) Bajwa who helped Mr Khan win elections and secure a loan from the UAE. “However, vote of no-confidence against the former prime minister was a constitutional process” he added.
Commenting on Nawaz’s return, he said Mr Nawaz was politically active but he could travel to Pakistan after getting complete medical treatment. The government was focusing on providing people as much relief in petrol price but it depended upon the price of petrol in international market.
Taking a jibe at Mr Khan, he said Mr Khan should avoid talking of country’s economic default as these kind of statements projected negative image of the country.
Addressing his spat with former finance minister Miftah Ismail, he said Mr Miftah did not represent PML-N but himself in TV shows as he could have his personal views even though he’s from the PML-N. “I am entitled to represent PML-N’s official stance”, he added.
He further said when Mr Miftah was appointed finance minister, everyone supported him and advised him adding he was continuing Mr Miftah’s agreements. “Mr Miftah must use calculated language”, he advised.
