JI announces to end sit-in after successful talks with Sindh Govt over LG bill

KARACHI (Dunya News) - Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) announced to end sit-in in Karachi after successful negotiations with Sindh government over controversial local government (LG) bill passed by the provincial assembly, Dunya News reported.
The announcement to end 29-day long sit-in was made by JI Karachi chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman after successful with Sindh government representative Nasir Hussain Shah in the wee hours of Friday.
A delegation of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) lead by Sindh Minister for Local Government Nasir Shah arrived at the JI sit-in camp for talks with Jamaat-e-Islami leadership.
According to sources, Nasir Hussain Shah also presented the draft prepared after agreeing to amend the Local Government Act.
Nasir Hussain Shah said that PPP and Jamaat-e-Islami have agreed to empower the mayor of Karachi. The two sides also agreed on the establishment of the Provincial Finance Commission. The mayor and town chairmen will be members of the commission.
The two sides also reached agreement, according to which mayor will head the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board while educational institutions and hospitals will be handed over to the Local Bodies.
